Are you happy?

What kind of ass backwards vapid question is this?

SAAK seems to have had this enquired of him an inordinate number of times recently and it has got him thinking.

SAAK’s stock standard reply to such a query is “about what”, but, in retrospect this could be construed as somewhat passive aggressive. So, what then, SAAK cannot for the life of him envisage a circumstance where “yes” is the correct response, surely no one is happy all the time.

In SAAK’s entirely sheltered opinion happy is a fleeting thing, it’s an eight iron from one hundred and fourty meters that, the moment it leaves the club, you know is within three feet. It’s an unexpected comment from a complete stranger that provides a momentary escape from reality.

Whilst SAAK’s utopian vision of a complete moratorium on dumb-ass questions seems some time off, he is left to ponder this, perhaps it’s better not to share the absolute “NO, don’t be a dick” that would be closest to the truth and go with the smile blankly and nod and hope that someone somewhere is on his wavelength and will come into his existence soon.

It's such a personal question! I'd rather ask someone whether their jocks happen to be riding up. Do people really want to hear the answer? I think you've hit it on the head re. happiness being a transient state, but I suppose the bigger picture might sometimes show that you can generally be more bummed out over months and years then things take a slow turn and you're (on the average) more relaxed and happy. But honestly, no-one should ask you if you're happy. It's kind of patronising don't you think?

I'm happy until someone tells me I ask lame questions.

Then I feel stupid. ALthough, really, stupid isn't a feeling, so much as a state of being... right?

Anyway, the last time anyone asked this in the seven dwarfs' house there was a lot of finger pointing, let me tell you. And not all of it happened in the bath.

Seven dwarfs in a bed all feeling Happy, Happy got out so they all felt Grumpy? Yes Happy is a bit like SAAK, monosexual.

SAAK does wonder, where are all the sane people? Or in the alternate, why is SAAK so far off the mark?

To that end though, SAAK would like to be close enough to someone in real life such that "are you happy" is a for real question that deserves a for real answer.

However, in the end you get your Lot in life.... SAAK knows this as an absolute truth.
